President Yudhoyono Orders Energy Saving
Monday, 11 July, 2005 | 21:02 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered government personnel to implement an energy saving movement.
This was stipulated in Presidential Instruction No. 10/2005.
According to Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro this presidential instruction was issued to deal with the energy crisis in Indonesia.
The instruction has been in force since Sunday (10/07) and is to be followed up by ministers and head of regions in Indonesia.
“This is a temporary solution to settle the energy crisis,” said Yusgiantoro after attending a coordination meeting between the President and governors on Sunday (10/07).
Jogjakarta governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said that all governors have agreed to socialize energy saving in their own areas.
Such instruction, he said, would be used as the legal base for the movement.
“We will later detail this matter through the regional government,” he stated.
The energy saving movement was voiced by the government since two weeks ago.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla, for example, has asked that TV broadcasting be cut back, use of air conditioners at offices and malls be reduced, and has even called on users of luxurious cars to use pertamax fuel.
In addition to energy economizing movement, Yusgiantoro said that the energy crisis could be settled by securing fuel distribution and building fuel stocks back up to the safety level of 22.5 days.
“So far, 80 percent of fuel supplies for August and September have been met,” said Yusgiantoro.
Pertamina’s Managing Director Widya Purnama has promised that the fuel distribution and queues would be back to normal by between the third week and the end of July.
“We confirm that queues will not be seen anymore,” said Purnama. (YOPHIANDI-Tempo News Room)
