Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources: Pertamina to Carry Fuel Quota Excess
Tuesday, 05 July, 2005 | 02:37 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian government has requested that state oil & gas company Pertamina to bear fuel quota excesses if consumption by the general public continues to increase.

In the State Budget, the fuel quota set by the government amounted to 59.6 million kilolitres.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro has said that if Pertamina exceeded the set quota, Pertamina itself would have to pay any excess.

“So, Pertamina is working hard to settle this,” said Yusgiantoro after a ceremony to inaugurate first echelon employees at the Indonesian Department of Finance on Monday (04/07).

According to the energy minister, there has been an increase in demand for fuel, so there is concern that this will exceed the quota.

“This is why the corporate policy is to lessen high consumption of fuel,” said Yusgiantoro.

On the other hand however, the increasing fuel demand indicates the improving economy.

Regarding fuel supplies for power plants, Yusgiantoro confirmed that supplies will still be safe.

For the State Electricity Company, PLN, the fuel quota shall be seen this coming October. (Muhamad Fasabeni-Tempo News Room)
