Friday, 27 May, 2005 | 00:30 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian government has requested that the United States government remove Indonesia from the US observation priority list.
According to Indonesian Minister of Trade Mari Pangestu, Indonesian government has requested that Indonesia be included only on the monitored list.
“The monitored list is more positive than the observation list,” Pangestu told reporters at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (20/05).
The minister went on to say that the government has had a strong commitment to eradicate the pirating of products.
Countries included on the observation priority list are considered to be lacking in awareness in terms of piracy of intellectual property rights and products.
However, according to Pangestu, the private sector, including artists and local manufacturers, must also be more aware as regard this.
The matter will be discussed in the cooperation framework of Trade and Investment Facilities Agreement in the USA.
“This is not aimed at pleasing the USA,” said Pangestu.
