Two Marriott Bombing Case “Aides” Sentenced to Jail
Friday, 15 April, 2005 | 10:03 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:South Jakarta District Court sentenced Sunarto aka Imam Gozali, 55, to seven years in jail as he was proven guilty for having hidden important information regarding the JW Marriott Hotel bombing that took place on August 5, 2003.
The judges, led by Judge Efran Basuning, said that Gozali was also proven guilty of having possessed, purchased and hidden firearms and ammunition.
However, the judges said that Gozali was not proven guilty of having facilitated terrorist suspects.
According to the judges, the meeting between Gozali and two alleged bombing masterminds, Noor Din M. Top and Dr. Azahari in Solo, Central Java, in April 2003, did not indicate that Gozali had supported any act of terrorism.
However, Gozali was proven of having possessed a 38-caliber firearm illegally.
“This firearm was never reported to the authorities,” stated Judge Basuning.
In a separate trial, Sabturani aka Roslan, 37, was sentenced to four years in prison by the South Jakarta District Court judges, led by I Ketut Manika.
Roslan was proven guilty of having facilitated the terrorist suspects by hiding them despite their terrorist acts.
His lawyer said that he would file an appeal over this ruling. (Astri Wahyuni-Tempo News Room)
