Asia-Africa Summit Security Operation Nets 71 People

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Jakarta Police officers arrested 71 people in several operations conducted between April 6 and April 12, in the run-up to the Asia-Africa Summit, which will be held between April 22 and April 24.
According to Jakarta Police spokesman, High Comm. Tjiptono, such operations will continue to be carried out until official guests to the summit return to their countries.
“These operations are being carried out so that the official guests feel safe and the summit runs smoothly,” Tjiptono told reporters on Tuesday (12/04).
The number of security personnel deployed to secure the international summit amounts to more than 10,854 people.
Of the 71 people arrested, 52 were caught with sharp weapons in their possession, two with firearms and the remainder with illegal drugs.
“The operations took place in the Grogol and Senen areas in West and Central Jakarta, at bus terminals and other places,” stated Tjiptono.
Jakarta Police will also conduct the Kilat Jaya police operation to secure the Asia-Africa Summit.
This operation is aimed at questioning and pursuing several people whom have been included as the operation’s target. “These targets include suspects like Noor Din M. Top, the alleged bombing mastermind,” said Jakarta Police chief, Insp. Gen. Firman Gani.
