Relocation of Buyat Residents Still Uncertain
Wednesday, 23 March, 2005 | 22:34 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Up to now, the relocation of the residents of Buyat Bay people is still uncertain.
The government itself is considered to still be focusing on the settlement of legal action against PT Newmont Minahasa Raya.
“The condition of the residents is already very worrying. Relocation cannot be postponed until the legal case is settled,” said Muliadi Mokodompit from the Buyat Bay Humanitarian Committee (KKTB) at a press conference on Wednesday (23/3).
According to Muliadi, the Ministry for the Environment had said that the funding for the relocation of the Buyat residents would have to come out of compensation from the ongoing case against Newmont.
The KKTB will still try to carry out the relocation.
It is planned that the committee will use land in Duminaga Village, Bolaang Uki sub-district, Bolaang Mongondow Regency, which is around 200 kilometers from Buyat village.
“The location is still near the beach. So it is suitable for fishermen,” said Mulyadi.
However, according to him, this plan has to wait until the local government issues the use of land license and the formalities are now under way.
“If the license is issued, the planned development will be start at the end of this month,” he said convincingly.
