Truth and Friendship Commission Formed

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesia President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the President of Timor Leste Xanana Gusmao signed a declaration setting up a Truth and Friendship Commission at the State Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/3).
This commission’s tasks are to solve problems between both countries relating to human rights issues.
At the signing ceremony, President Xanana was accompanied by the Timor Leste Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri.
In attendance for Indonesia were the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nur Hassan Wirajuda, the State Secretary Yusril Ihza Mahendra, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights Hamid Awaluddin, and the Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi.
During a joint press conference with President Xanana, President Yudhoyono said he hoped that settlement of past issues between the two countries would strengthen the bilateral relationship.
“In order that cooperation for the future can be better,” said Yudhoyono.
