Indonesian and Singapore Defense Ministers Discuss Military Training Sites Review

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian defense minister Juwono Sudarsono met with Singaporean defense minister Teo C. Hean on Thursday (09/12) in Jakarta.
Both ministers discussed the importance of reviewing agreements on military training sites used by Indonesia and Singapore.
Indonesian Ministry of Defense’s director-general for defense strategy Maj. Gen. Sudrajat, who accompanied Sudarsono at the meeting, said that Indonesia emphasized the importance of making use of training sites that benefit both countries.
Both ministers also discussed whether or not the use of these training sites should be extended.
During the meeting, the Indonesian delegation put forward the possibility of improving cooperation in the defense sector, particularly as regards training and education.
“Both Indonesia and Singapore are interested in improving human resources within their defense ministries,” said Sudrajat quoting the result of the meeting.
Teo C. Hean said that his visit to Indonesia was to meet and continue his previous discussions with Sudarsono regarding defense cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore.
During the meeting, both Hean and Sudarsono agreed on military cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore as well as exchange of students.
“This is important to build better cooperation in the future time,” stated Hean.
Indonesia and Singapore have had a good and strong relationship in the defense sector for 30 years now.
