Friday, 24 September, 2004 | 09:00 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto has stated that he does not consider Australia’s plan to set up an anti-terrorism unit as a threat.
“The most important thing is that the Australian government asks permission from our country,” Sutarto told reporters following the opening of People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) assembly on Thursday (23/09).
He added that if this anti-terror unit were positioned in Indonesia without any permission from the Indonesian government, this could be considered as intervention.
As reported earlier, it was Australian Prime Minister who revealed the plan to set up the anti-terrorism unit.
Howard promised to establish the unit should he be re-elected as Prime Minister.
Sutarto said that the Indonesian government was entitled to reject the entrance of this Australian anti-terrorism unit. (Faisal - Tempo News Room)
