Some People Allegedly Related to Bombing Suspect Dr. Azahari Are Arrested

TEMPO Interactive, Surabaya, East Java:The police arrested three people who were allegedly related to Dr. Azahari, the alleged bombing mastermind who still becomes police fugitive, at the Rewwin residential complex in Waru, Sidoarjo, East Java. They are Rahmatulloh, his wife Ny. Farudatus Zuroh and a man with the initial name of Ag.
“This arrest is related to the bombing incident in Kuningan,” said East Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Edy Sunarno to reporters in Surabaya on Thursday (16/09). Sunarno denied to reveal these people’s role in the bombing incident that took place on Thursday (09/09) in front of Australian Embassy in Jakarta.
Suyadi, the sub district head in the location where Rahmatulloh and his wife live, told TEMPO that the police raided the house of this couple on Wednesday (15/09) at 10 pm. According to Suyadi, the police found several documents that had been thrown into a well. Based on the copy of identity card found in that house, Rahmatulloh comes from Serang, Banten.
However, National Police chief of detectives Suyitno Landung and 88 detachment anti-terror director Brig. Gen. Pranowo Dahlan denied that this arrest had taken place.
National Police chief Gen. Da’i Bachtiar had earlier indicated the involvement of two men, Hasan and Jabir, in the bombing incident in front of Australian Embassy in Kuningan, Jakarta. According to Bachtiar, these two men had been prepared by the alleged bombing mastermind Noor Din Mohd. Top to commit the bombing attack. (Koran Tempo, 16/09).
Hasan used to be the employee of PT Pertani (persero) in Blitar, East Java. However, according to Suparno, the staff of Pertani office in Kediri who is heading the company’s office and warehouse in Blitar, Hasan resigned from the company two months ago.
Jabir was named as the religious teacher (ustadz) at the Darussyahadah Muslim School in Gunung Madu, Simo, Boyolali, Central Java. However, since May 2004, he has disappeared from the Muslim school.
