Newmont Factory Superintendent Named New Suspect in Buyat Case

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:National Police headquarters (HQ) detectives named Putra Wijayantri, the superintendent of PT Newmont Minahasa Raya (NMR) waste management factory, as the new suspect in the pollution case in Buyat Bay, North Sulawesi. The questioning on the suspect shall be held on Thursday morning (16/09).
NMR External Relations Manager David Sompie and NMR Environmental Superintendent Jerry Kojan Fow had earlier been named as suspects in the case.
NMR spokesman Kasan Mulyono said he had received the summons on Putra. The police planned to impose article 42 of Environmental Law, with the possible sentence of 6-year jail sentence and Rp10-billion fine, against these suspects.
National Police HQ Crime V Director Brig. Gen. Suharto confirmed the questioning on Jerry Kojan Fow on Wednesday (15/09). “Well, we did question him today. Our evidences are quite strong. Moreover, we have expert witnesses’ testimonies,” said Suharto to Tempo News Room after a hearing session with the DPR Defense Commission held at the legislature complex on Wednesday (15/09).
