Kopassus Commander Charged to 10-Year Jail Sentence

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Former 0502 North Jakarta Military Command Operation Section 2 Head, Sriyanto, who is now the Army’s Special Force (Kopassus) Commander, was charged with human rights violations in the Tanjung Priok case and the public prosecutor is demanding a sentence of 10-years imprisonment.
Sriyanto is considered guilty of human rights violations during the Tanjung Priok incident, which took place on September 12, 1984.
“There is proof that the suspect was involved in crimes against humanity, that led to a systematic attack on the people,” said public prosecutor Darmono at the ad hoc human rights court in Central Jakarta, on Thursday (08/07).
Sriyanto is considered of being responsible for the dead and injured victims in the Tanjung Priok incident.
He was at that time heading up the third group of the Arhanudse-6 Military Command 0502 North Jakarta that was sent to help the North Jakarta Police for security purposes. (Edi Can- Tempo News Room)
