Wednesday, 07 July, 2004 | 23:18 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:South Jakarta District Court public prosecutor Ramos Hutapea demanded five-year jail sentence for the main suspect in a terrorism case, Malaysian citizen Syamsul Bahri, 37, on Tuesday (07/07).

Bahri, who was born in Kedah, Malaysia, is an alleged member of the Jamaah Islamiyah organization in Malaysia led by the late Abdullah Sungkar.

Bahri’s position in this organization was as the assistant of the group chairman in the preaching division.

In this terrorism case, the suspect is alleged to have conducted several meetings in Bekasi, Bogor, West Java and Semarang, Central Java, to discuss the establishment of a special team.

This team consists of a logistic team, a survey team and an engineering team.

The suspect, who received his bachelor degree from a US university, is a member of an engineering team assigned to assemble a firing device or a switched bomb.

The public prosecutor considered Bahri of having assisted and facilitated terrorist suspects and withheld information on terrorism crime regarding them.

According to Hutapea, the suspect also violated article 266 of Criminal Code as he has ordered the delivery of a fake testimony on an authentic document.
