Indonesia Monitors Establishment of Military Training Facilities in Australia
Saturday, 12 June, 2004 | 12:17 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian government is monitoring the US and Australian governments’ plan to establish joint military training facilities in Australia.

“I don’t think that Indonesia is the reason for the US and Australian authorities to establish training facilities in Australia,” Indonesian foreign department spokesman, Marty Natalegawa, told reporters in Jakarta on Friday (11/06).

He added that the US Government has been very open in providing information to Indonesia regarding this matter.

Natalegawa denied assumptions that the US authorities planned to establish a military base in Australia due to the Indonesian and Malaysian Government’s refusal to allow US military presence in the Malacca Straits. (Faisal – Tempo News Room)
