Two Suspects in DPR Bombing Found Guilty and Get Jail Sentences
Friday, 11 June, 2004 | 15:21 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Central Jakarta District Court judges sentenced the two suspects convicted in the bombing of a building in the House of Representatives (DPR) legislature complex, which took place on July 14, 2003, to six and four years in prison.

The two suspects, Aditiawarman and Fadli Hasan, were proven of having committed a terrorism crime and hidden explosive materials used for the bombing.

“They are proven to have cooperated in the bombing case of Nusantara IV building in the legislature complex, Jakarta,” said head of judges, I Putu Widnya, in the trial.

Previously, the prosecutor had demanded the judges sentence both suspects to 10 years in prison.

No one was killed or injured in this bombing.

However, the judges considered that both defendants were guilty as they had created fear amongst the public and destroyed equipment in the legislature complex’s building.

“The legislature complex is a very important place as it has high political values in the eye of both Indonesian and international public,” said Judge Widnya.

Fadli Hasan was sentenced to four years in prison, two years less than Aditiawarman, as he only helped Aditiawarman to buy and keep explosive materials and firearms.

Three other suspects in this bombing case, Rijil, Muda Belia, and Maulana, are still on the run.

The judges, however, considered that the two convicted defendants did not commit the crime on their own account but were ordered to do so by the other fugitive suspects.

The judges also considered that both Fadli and Aditiawarman had stated their regret for having got involved in the bombing case and stated their loyalty to Indonesian Republic rather than the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) like their fugitive friends.

In the previous trial, Aditiawarman told the judges and the public prosecutor that he had assembled and put the bomb in the legislature complex.

“This was under the order of my friend, Rijil,” he said at that time.

The other suspect, Fadli Hasan, was proven of having kept explosive materials and firearms owned by Rijil and delivered by Maulana to him on June 23, 2003.

Fadli also bought explosive materials that were then assembled into a bomb by Aditiawarman. (Edy Can- Tempo News Room)
