Ba’asyir Unwilling to Answer Police Questions

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Supreme leader of Indonesian Mujahidin Council (MMI), Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, was unwilling to answer questions asked by National Police headquarters detectives on Wednesday (28/4) at the Salemba Penitentiary, Jakarta.

The questioning of Ba’asyir started at 9am Western Indonesian Time.

The MMI’s Information and Data Department head, Fauzan Al-Anshari, told reporters that most of the questions had been related to the involvement of Ba’asyir in the Jamaah Islamiyah organization and the Bali bombing incident, that took place on October 12, 2002.

“Ba’asyir only answered the questions regarding his personal identity,” Al-Anshari told reporters. He added that the police detectives had so far asked a total of 34 questions.

“Ba’asyir will deliver his testimony in an open trial if this process continues,” Al-Anshari stated. According to him, Ba’asyir is convinced that the investigation is being carried out due to pressure from the US Government. (Faisal – Tempo News Room)
