Iranian Drug Smuggler Caught in Bali

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Authorities at Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport caught on Monday (21/12) one Iranian trying to smuggle methamphetamine estimated to worth around Rp400 million.
Head of Customs and Excise Ofice at Ngurah Rai Airport Faried Sybli Barchia said on Tuesday (22/12) the 34 year-old male smuggler brought in the drugs packed in 22 plastic capsules inside his stomach. Each capsule according to officials contained about nine grams of methamphetamine.
The Iranian, identified as Shahbazi Saeid flew in on Qatar Airways QR 0624 from Doha which stopped briefly in Kula Lumpur, Malaysia. Authorities also seized a cellphone, US$516 and 30,000 Iranian rial from Shabazi.
There were nine Iranian nationals in the flight, seven of whom from Kuala Lumpur, one from Istanbul and one from Tehran. Saeid said Bali was only a stop before continue his flight to Jakarta.
Customs office suspected that the deliveri was just a test case to measure security at the airport.
