Former Maritime Minister Released From Jail

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Convicted corruptor, former Maritime and Fisheries Minister Rokhmin Dahuri has been released from jail on Wednesday (25/11) after serving only 2.5 years of his 7 year jail term following last week's ruling from the Supreme Court to cut the jail term to four and a half year without explanation.
Several prominent politician attended a farewell ceremony for Dahuri at Cipinang Penitentiary to applaud the decision and slammed the sentence on Dahuri handed by the Corruption Court on Juli 23rd 2007.
Akbar Tandjung Head of the Advisory Council of Golkar party, also a former defendant in a Rp40 billion corruption case involving the State Logistics Agency in 2003 said “We all never believe he had committed corruption.”
While the parliament speaker, Taufiq Kiemas who is a top official in the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle said “People like Rokhmin are supposed to receive good treatment.“
Dahuri was charged for collecting illegal levy between 2002 – 2004 and was given seven year in prison and ordered to pay Rp200 million fine.
