Government to Encourage Investment in Agriculture

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Vice President Boediono said the government is prepared to remove several regulation that may curtail investments in agriculture sector to push the capacity of the logistic system.
In a speech at the conference on food resillience organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome on Wednesday (18/11), Boediono who led Indonesian delegates said, “The main focus is on our strategy to improve the logistic system to optimize our enormous geographic potentials.”
After the speech Boediono met with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin HJ Mohd Yassin to discuss cooperation possibility in agriculture. Boediono said Indonesia will provide for the land and Malaysia could provide for the technical assistance and management, then “We will look for a third party to finance the program.”
Agriculture Minister Suswono who were among the delegates said domestic investors will be given first priority in the program, then later to foreign investors. One of the areas prepared fro the program was Merauke, the southernmost regency in Papua Province.
