Hotel Occupancy Rate Rises in May

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Occupancy rate in star-rated hotels in May this year rose 2.11 percent from April as number of foreign tourist increases, Statistics Agency announced on Friday. While occupancy rate was higher, the agency said there were no change in the average time of occupancy.

The average occupancy rate was 47.81 percent in may with average staying period spent by customers was around 2.14 days. In a release issued by the agency on Friday, Head of the agency Rusman Heriawan said the highest occupancy rate of 60.26 percent was recorded in Bali and the lowest was recorded in North Sumatra at 31.77 percent.

The growth corresponds to the rising number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in May by 6.85 percent to 520.5 thousand from the previous month. Number of foreign tourist arrival in Bali 's Ngurah Rai airport rose from 188.2 thousand in April to 190.7 thousand in May.

The world Ocean Conference in North Sulawei in mid May also pushed hotel occupancy rate in the province to 51.66 percent from 43.12 percent in April.
