TEMPO Interactive, Nusa Dua: Indonesia’s information and communication technologies will take advantage of and increase their network capacity as well as service quality through migrating communication channels to internet protocol-based networks.
This increase in network capacity increase was one of the points in the community’s declaration during the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies forum in Nusa Dua, Bali, yesterday (27/2).
According to Sylvia W. Sumarlin, Head of Indonesia’s Internet Service Provider Association, the ICT Bali Declaration will become a standard for information technology industry development until 2011.
“We will realize this strategic plan in stages,” said Sylvia.
She went on to say the declaration was also in order to make all interests of information and communication technology be in synergy and also to provide guidance in planning this sector’s development on a national scale.
In addition to increasing network capacity, the community agreed to broaden communication technology network infrastructure.
The community will also facilitate application and content development for multimedia development centers, be committed to continue increasing human resources capacity through various educational forums and create just regulations for all.
The declaration was attended by Information and Communication Minister Sofyan Djalil, all cellular operator leaders, Internet Service Providers; Internet network provider and national information technology communities.
Sofyan Djalil said he felt that the declaration was already in line with the programs announced by the government.
This can be seen from the government’s plan to open the Palapa Ring (fiber optic network construction project) tender and to build telephone network for villagers through the universal service obligation program.
