TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The process to set up nuclear-powered electricity plants must be started by 2010, in order to meet the 2025 target.
Adiwardojo, Deputy Head of National Nuclear Power Agency from the Nuclear Energy and Technology Development Division, said that the building of reactors must be started in 2016.
“We need six years to prepare pre-construction,” he said yesterday (02/21) in Jakarta.
The pre-construction preparations, according to him, include owner appointments and project tenders.
The appointments will be made by a special team for implementing development that is led by the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources.
“We have already put forward the proposal,” said Adiwardojo.
The appointed parties could be state-owned enterprises SOEs), private companies, cooperatives, or consortiums.
“They will take care of reactor location, construction, operation and decommissioning permits.”
Adiwardojo projected that the use of nuclear power for electricity in 2025 will amount to two percent.
According to plan, the reactor that will be built in the first phase will have the capacity of 1,000 megawatts, and this will be simultaneously increased to 4,000 megawatts.
“The required investment will be around US$1.5 billion,” Adiwardojo said.
