Government to Build Infrastructure in Disadvantaged Villages
Tuesday, 30 January, 2007 | 17:02 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government is to disburse funds of Rp525 billion to build infrastructure in disadvantaged villages.

These development funds will be taken from the 2007 State Budget, allocated to the Department of Public Works.

Agus Widjanarko, Director General of Housing, Building, Planning and Urban Development at the Department of Public Works, said that the infrastructure development in disadvantaged villages will be focused on 199 regencies in Indonesia apart from DKI Jakarta, South Sulawesi, South-East Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara.

“These four areas have already received assistance from the Asian Development Bank,” he said yesterday (01/29) in Jakarta.

He said that the government will build infrastructure facilities such as roads, bridges, footbridges, irrigations and clean water facilities in 2,000 disadvantaged villages.

Rachmat Tatang Bahrudin, Secretary to the State Minister of Disadvantaged Regions Development, explained that up until January 26, 2007, there were 32,379 (45.68 percent) disadvantaged villages in Indonesia out of the total of 70,611 villages.
