Indosat Targeting Revenues of Rp1 Trillion
Monday, 22 January, 2007 | 16:48 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: PT Indonesian Satellite Corporation Tbk (Indosat) is targeting revenues of Rp1 trillion from corporate business solution services in 2007.

Bambang Priantono, Senior Vice President of National Corporate Sales of Indosat, said that Indosat would develop a new optical cable network to meet this target.

Indosat will invest 15 percent of its entire capital expenditures this year, amounting to US$1 billion, for building network infrastructure, including optical cable.

Optical cable lines that are to be built include the Surabaya-Bali and Surabaya-Makassar lines, as well as the Batam-Singapore and Batam-Pekanbaru lines.

Indosat will also move part of its Internet connection lines to Australia and Europe permanently in order to avoid the risk of capacity reduction—such as the Taiwanese earthquake some time ago.

If the lines are moved, the capacity reduction will only amount to one third.

“Unlike today, when the reduction reaches 80 percent,” said Bambang.

The Indosat division for business solutions has already developed an optic cable network covering 200 buildings in Jakarta with 1,000 subscribing companies.

The largest subscribers are mining and banking companies.
