Inactive .id Websites to Be Erased

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Websites using the .id domain name which are no longer active will be erased if by March 31 this year there is not clarification from the sites' owners.
Cahyana Ahmadjayadi, Director General of Telematics Applications at the Information and Communication Department, explained if by the end of March the sites' owners cannot be contacted, the government will erase the websites directly.
“After that, the .id domain name websites will be handed to the Domain Name Management Association that has been established,” Cahyana told Tempo in Jakarta yesterday (9/1).
Sites of .id which are still active do not need to register at the time of management transfer because the existing system will automatically collect the current .id sites.
As for domain names whose period of validity ended in 2006, they will be extended until the end of March 2007.
According to Cahyana, the registration system or the use of sites ending with .id will be valid for one year and can be re-extended.
The provisions of this domain validity are set so that domain names can still be active and be used by their owners.
According to Sylvia W. Sumarlin, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Internet Service Provider Association, registration fees will be determined later after the Domain Name Management Association holds a members meeting in March.
“All new policies will be issued after the meeting,” said Sylvia, Monday (8/1).
