Directorate General of Taxes Subject to Violations
Wednesday, 20 December, 2006 | 17:09 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Directorate General of Taxes is considered the most problematic government agency as regards incidents of violations.

During 2005 and 2006, it was recorded that between 60 and 70 percent of violations occurred in the directorate, while the Directorate General of the State Treasury had the remaining 30 percent.

This statement was made by Permana Agung, Inspector General at the Department of Finance.

According to Permana, one of the violations at the Directorate General of Taxes included the amount of tax payments by tax payers not being fully paid in.

“We still investigating why the payment were not fully paid in,” said Permana yesterday (12/19) in Jakarta.

Unfortunately, Permana did not fully remember how much has the state has lost due to these violations.

“I do not keep the amount of losses in my head. We are awaiting the investigation results,” he said.

Permana promised that full investigations of these cases would soon be carried out.

Should there be document forging or violations in tax payment stage, the government will soon find those who have entangled in this.

As regards the possibility of tax officers' involvement in the violations, Permana stated that he would still refer to principle of innocent until proven guilty.

He is still awaiting the results of internal investigations that have been conducted by the Inspectorate of Investigations Division.
