BI Deputy Governor Siti Ch. Fadrijah said there are indeed many foreign banks interested in acquiring local banks in Indonesia. “BI has not yet received the written statement of an acquisition request or ready-to-purchase plan,” she said in Jakarta yesterday (18/12).

As reported yesterday, three banks in the Middle East will soon realize the plan to acquire several local banks in Indonesia. The three banks are Al-Barakah, Qatar Islamic Bank and Jordan Islamic Bank.

Lately the trend of foreign banks acquiring local banks in Indonesia has been springing up. For example the Bank of Indonesia to acquire Bank Swadesi. The State Bank of India bought Bank Indomonex, RaboBank took over Hagabank and the Commonwealth Bank (Australia) bought Bank Artha Niaga Kencana.
