Random Network: Cellular Operators Do Not Suffer Losses

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel), an operator company stated it will not experience losses from random networks during the visit of United States’ President George W. Bush to Bogor on November 20.
According to Telkomsel’s spokesperson, Suryo Hadiyanto, there is no need to be concerned because it is a standard protocol that is globally accepted. “The public already comprehends randomization because it’s a common thing,” he said in Jakarta yesterday (6/11).
Suryo explained the loss of Telkomsel which has 32.4 million customers is also inconsiderable. The reason is the scope of the area to be effected by randomization is small.
According to him, randomization will not go on for 10 hours nonstop in all areas passed by Bush’s group on the way to Bogor. Randomization will be on area to area that is passed by the group. “So when Bush has passed Halim Perdanakusuma, randomization there is transferred to the next area, for example Cibubur,” said Suryo.
Suryo said every state event that takes place at the Presidential Palace, such as the Independence Day ceremony, randomization takes place by the Presidential Security Guards.
Regarding the plan of randomization for Bush’s visit, Suryo acknowledged he has not yet received an official notification letter from the Information and Communication Department.
A similar remark was made by PT Excelcomindo Pratama (XL) spokesperson Ventura Elisawati,. According to her, there has not yet been any official notification because the Communication Department has not also received a request from the Foreign Affairs Department. “Network operational cutting usually depends on how important the state guest is,” she said.
The same explanation was said by PT Indonesian Satellite Corporation’s (Indosat) spokesperson Adita Irawati. She said that the duration of randomization depends on the width of area and the importance of the state guest. If randomization is necessary, “We will inform customers via short messages,” she said.
