Five Companies Bid for Martable’s Gold Mine
Friday, 28 April, 2006 | 14:18 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Five companies are interested in purchasing Martable's gold mine belonging to PT Newmont Horas Nauli, subsidiary of PT Newmont Pacific Nusantara. The mine with around 30 tons of potential reserves is being sold because Newmont doesn’t consider it economical any longer.

The Mineral, Coal, and Geothermal Director General at the Energy and Mineral Resources Department, Simon Sembiring, said the three companies interested are foreign companies. The other one is a national company, PT Aneka Tambang, which is to establish a consortium. And there is an Australian company merged with a local firm.

According to Simon, the evaluation report of the gold mine sale has been conveyed by Newmont. “I cannot give the target when this will be finished because it needs analyzing. We are making an effort to complete this as soon as possible,” he said yesterday.
