Rp1.2 Trillion Funding for Goods Trains
Wednesday, 26 April, 2006 | 15:30 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Next year the government will allocate Rp1.2 trillion in funding to develop goods trains infrastructure in Java.

This infrastructure is extremely necessary in order to reduce the loads on main roads.

According to Soemino Eko Saputro, the Director General of Trains at the Transportation Department, this step is also to increase goods loading security and minimize the amount of illegal levies on roads.

The role of goods trains, he said, needs to be enhanced because currently goods train usage is only 0.6 percent.

The government is also targeting that a container goods train route from Tanjung Priok Harbor to Gedebage, East Bandung, be completed in 2007.
